The Problem
Manually tracking album sales and streams across all platforms is time-consuming, confusing, and challenging for busy recording artists to do on their own.
The Goal
Design an app for recording artists that allows users to track album sales and streaming numbers across all platforms.
Client
“MuMo”
(Google UX Design Certification Project)
Project Duration
December 2022- January 2023
My Role
UX designer designing the app from conception to delivery
My Responsibilities
Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs
User Research: Summary
I created empathy maps to understand the users I was designing for and their needs. I also conducted secondary research and drew from my own experience of releasing an album in 2022. However, I was careful to keep in mind that my experience as a an independent musician did not account for all experiences, and to remain mindful of any assumptions I was making.
A primary user group identified through research was independent musicians juggling multiple jobs and income streams who don’t have time to constantly check every platform upon releasing their music. Research revealed that direct sales from the independent musicians are also an important part of their sales numbers.
User Research: Pain Points
Creating an affinity diagram after the Usability Studies helped me determine which areas to prioritize.
Key Final Mockups
TAKEAWAYS
Users intuitively know what makes the most sense to them, and getting that feedback leads to a stronger design, faster
The app made users feel like they could save time and have more energy to focus on creating their art and nurturing their relationships
It’s crucial to include accessibility considerations in every step of the design process
