Around 70% of all working-age people are actively looking for a job change, while a mere 14% of Americans believe they have a great job and would not change it. There are even more folks who want to change their career but do not have the networking and financial resources to discover all of their career possibilities.
The Problem
Design a free app and responsive website that will match users with capable Mentors from a shared background. Their Mentor will then help guide them on their options for brightening their careers.
The Goal
The Client
Career Brightener is a California-based organization that recognizes many people would like to pivot careers and enhance their lives, but do not know where to begin. The organization is creating a tool that matches users with capable, understanding Mentors who share commonalities with them and can help them level up.

Project Duration
January- February 2023
My Role
UX designer leading the app and responsive website design from conception to delivery
My Responsibilities
Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, iterating on designs, determining information architecture, and responsive design
User Research: summary
The feedback received through research made it very clear that users would be open and willing to receive support from a Mentor if it was someone who shared their background in some way, and if it would not add to their monthly financial expenses.
Ideate
I did a quick ideation exercise to come up with ideas for how to address gaps identified in the competitive audit. My focus was specifically on creating an uplifting, transparent user flow.
Final Mobile App Mockups
Information Architecture & Responsive Design
Information Architecture: Sitemap
With the app designs completed, I started work on designing the responsive website. The structure I chose was designed to make the user flow straight-forward for users on the website.
Responsive Website Design
The designs for screen size variation included mobile website, tablet, and desktop. I optimized the designs to fit specific user needs of each device and screen size.
Users shared that the app made them feel uplifted and hopeful about their future and potential
It’s crucial to include accessibility considerations in every step of the design process
Sometimes even a small design change can have a huge impact on usability
